The Rushurgent Working Group (RWG), led by Dr. Leo Armada, Dr. Betchaida Payot, Dr. Gabriel Theophilus Valera, and Dr. Carla Dimalanta, recently conducted geological field mapping and geophysical surveys in Marinduque Island as part of their continuing research and outreach initiatives.  Geologic mapping in the western part of Marinduque Island was conducted with students from the Geology 170 and 215 classes.

Concurrently, project teams from two DOST-funded projects under the VOTE Program — “3D Geophysical Mapping of the Southern Luzon Volcanic Arc and Geohazard Implications (ARC_3D)” and “Seismic Scanning of Active Philippine Fault Splays for Marine Geohazards (SeiScAn_Ph)” — conducted ground gravity, magnetic, and CrowdMag surveys to enhance understanding of the region’s subsurface configuration.

As part of its community outreach, RWG also organized an Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaign titled “Geo-Lecture Series on Geohazards” on June 28, 2025, at Casa Real in Boac. The event was held in partnership with the Marinduque Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) and Marinduque State University (MarSU).  Participants from MarSU, Marinduque National High School, PDRRMO, and other stakeholders attended the seminar, demonstrating a shared commitment to strengthening geoscience awareness and disaster preparedness in the province.
