Dr. Jillian Aira S. Gabo-Ratio and Mr. Kreyvin Geonathan Andal of the Rushurgent Working Group (RWG) conducted fieldwork in the vicinity of Mount Pinatubo, covering areas in Pampanga and Zambales, from May 19 to 26, 2025. This activity was conducted in collaboration with Dr. Massimo Chiaradia, a professor from the University of Geneva in Switzerland, who was accompanied by his Ph.D. students, Mr. Erwan Delfaud and Ms. Eliana Maribel Norona. The fieldwork is part of Dr. Chiaradia’s research project, “Metals And Volatiles in large ERuptive magmatIC Systems (MAVERIC): An Alternative Approach to Understanding Processes of Porphyry Cu Deposit Formation.” The project investigates primary minerals from erupted volcanic materials to gain insights into the magmatic processes occurring beneath volcanoes. These processes are studied as modern analogs to those responsible for the formation of porphyry copper deposits. This international collaboration enhances ongoing efforts to understand volcanic systems and their role in mineralization, contributing to the broader field of economic geology and magmatic studies.
