The National Institute of Geological Sciences (NIGS) conducted its annual Gender Sensitivity Training and Anti-Sexual Harassment Seminar on 07 September 2026 at NIGS, UP Diliman. The activity was attended by first-year students, shiftees, and transferees (FSTs) for the 1st Semester, A.Y. 2026-2027, as well as by the newly hired NIGS employees.
The seminar featured sessions on gender sensitivity and the University’s policies on sexual harassment. Mr. Cid Ryan Manalo of the Diliman Gender Office (DGO) discussed gender and sexuality, including sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression (SOGIE), and emphasized the importance of respect and inclusivity in both academic and workplace settings. On the other hand, Ms. Janet De Leon of the Office of Anti-Sexual Harassment (OASH) discussed the 2017 UP Anti-Sexual Harassment Code, including the responsibilities of members of the UP community and the mechanisms for reporting and addressing sexual harassment cases.
Through this annual initiative, NIGS continues to promote a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for its students and employees. The seminar also reaffirmed the Institute’s commitment to raising awareness of gender-related concerns and strengthening a culture of respect and accountability within the NIGS community.
