In a continuing effort to strengthen safety awareness and emergency readiness, the National Institute of Geological Sciences (NIGS) held a Fire Safety Seminar and Emergency Drill on 28 March 2025 at the NIGS Seminar Room. The event gathered students and personnel to deepen their understanding of fire safety protocols and to cultivate a culture of preparedness within the academic community.
The seminar was led by experienced personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), who provided expert knowledge and practical insights on fire safety. Resource persons included SFO2 Gregorio R. Bichayda, FO1 Marnille D. Santiago, F/A George Nicolas M. Esteban, and SFO2 Irene B. Camacam, whose shared experiences gave participants a comprehensive understanding of emergency response.
Key topics covered during the seminar included fire prevention strategies, emergency evacuation procedures, and building safety measures, such as the identification of exit routes, proper placement of fire alarms and smoke detectors, and visibility of safety signage. Participants were also taught how to properly use fire extinguishers, reinforcing their ability to respond quickly and effectively in case of a fire.
The activity emphasized that preparedness is a shared responsibility. By equipping the NIGS community with essential safety knowledge and practical response skills, the Institute reaffirms its commitment to maintaining a safe and resilient learning environment.
