The University of the Philippines National Institute of Geological Sciences (UP-NIGS), represented by Dr. Carla B. Dimalanta, Dr. Noelynna T. Ramos, Dr. Leo T. Armada, and Ms. Jamila B. Abuda, participated in the LIGTAS-AGAD: Inter-Agency Workshop for Geohazards Knowledge and Technologies held on September 11–12, 2026, at the Development Academy of the Philippines in Tagaytay City.
Led by Dr. Decibel Faustino-Eslava and Dr. Jenielyn Padrones of the School of Environmental Science and Management (SESAM) and the Institute of Renewable and Natural Resources (IRNR) of the University of the Philippines Los Baños, the workshop was part of the DOST-funded research program, “Landslide Investigations for Geohazards Preparedness and Timely Advisories in the Philippines: Advanced Geospatial Approaches for DRRM (LIGTAS-AGAD).” It brought together representatives from UP-NIGS, the DOST-Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (DOST-PHIVOLCS), and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources–Mines and Geosciences Bureau (DENR-MGB) to exchange knowledge and explore applications of geohazard technologies.

Discussions covered geotechnical sampling and analysis, landslide and debris-flow modeling, threshold computation, the RILEWS Framework, and geospatial applications, including the LIGTAS-AGAD Portal and Web-Based RILEWS system. The sessions enabled UP-NIGS to share its expertise and explore how the project’s tools and innovations could complement existing geohazard initiatives.
The workshop also identified potential areas for inter-agency collaboration, knowledge exchange, and technology adoption. Participants completed a Sustainability Workshop Matrix to identify pathways for sustaining and applying LIGTAS-AGAD outputs, laying the groundwork for continued engagement through a community of practice on landslides.
