International Day of Women and Girls in Science
January
Last December 2025 to January 2026, the UP Cwm Zena'na will spearhead its 46th anniversary initiatives, with the theme: “Hearth: Kindled by the Little Joys of Sisterhood,” honoring the warmth that has kept the strength of sisterhood aflame and the ardent fire that continues to illuminate our hearth today and the years that will come.
Outreach (December 17)
With the theme, “A Hearth for her Heart,” the UP Cwm Zena’na conducted an outreach last December 17, 2026, to Tahanan Sta. Luisa, a safe home in Antipolo for street girls who suffered physical or sexual abuse.
Founded in 1997 by religious sisters and led by social worker Teresita L. Silva, they provide education, therapy, and life-skills training to help girls heal, regain dignity, and rebuild their lives. The outreach was filled with stories and laughter that warmed our hearts. We conduct fun, science-based activities that encourage the girls to be more curious and to enhance their creativity. We also provided donations that would be helpful for both the shelter and the girls.
Merchandise Launch (December 21)
These merchandise were designed for geological life in the field and beyond, these pieces celebrate the everyday moments that have kept our sisterhood strong.
Anniversary Dinner and Exibit (January 17)
An Anniversary Dinner with the theme, Kindle: Where the Warmth of Sisterhood Begins, was held last January 17, 2026, at the University Hotel, UP Diliman, Quezon City. This celebration honored the stories of sisterhood that burn ever brightly, kindled in shared quiet moments and ignited by the joyful sparks of our collective journey. This gathering served as a heartfelt reminder that the warmth we nurture within our circle continues to fuel our strength, illuminating every challenge and triumph that shapes who we are as Cwm Zena’na.
February
International Day of Women and Girls in Science
Last February 11, 2026, UP Cwm Zena’na joined the global recognition of women and girls in their exemplary roles in advancing scientific discovery and creating meaningful impact in society. The organization believes that through their wit and resilience, they continue to break barriers and inspire future generations of innovators.personality
Induction and Final Rites of 25A Pretty Little Layers
This was a two-day event organized by the resident members to formally induct this year’s applicants of Cwm Zena’na, along with some alumni. It was held from February 21 - 22, 2026, in Batasan Hills, Quezon City.
March
This month, we focused on celebrating the accomplishments of women, the resilience, courage, and wisdom of women around the world, as we continue striving for gender equality and an inclusive society as part of the annual observance of International Women’s History Month, with the theme, “Lead like the Babaylans, Filipinas!”.
To mark this year's celebration, the organization organized four (4) activities throughout the month to honor women globally and promote awareness.
As a gesture of gratitude and recognition, the UP Cwm Zena’na will be distributing heartfelt gifts throughout the entire month of March to celebrate the contributions of women in our community. Additionally, sanitary pads and other hygiene necessities will be made available for all ladies throughout the month, placed in the first-floor restrooms of the National Institute of Geological Sciences (NIGS) to ensure accessibility and convenience.
Geoscience encompasses a wide range of fields and sub-fields, many of which help us better understand the world we live in. Geosciences can also be applied to human society. From making and improving policies to combating the looming threat of climate change.
In this session, Cwm Talks 1 will be featuring esteemed alumni of Cwm Zena’na to discuss what their work entails and the experiences they have lived working as scientists in the applied geosciences.
This one-day, tea-time painting workshop event will open to all women in celebration of women’s leadership and drive in fostering a balanced and empowered community.
CWM Talks 2 is an empowering discussion on the realities of women's health—because understanding your body isn't "overreacting," it's necessary. From understanding the monthly menstrual cycle, navigating challenges like PCOS, to learning about birth control and how it affects the body, this talk creates a safe space for education and awareness. Through this session, women are encouraged to understand their bodies better, make informed choices, and feel more confident in taking charge of their reproductive health.
