The National Institute of Geological Sciences (NIGS) conducted its annual Freshie Welcome Assembly (FWA) 2026 on 07 September 2026 at the NIGS Audio-Visual Room (AVR), UP Diliman. Organized by the graduating batch Ardere, the assembly officially welcomed the incoming freshies, shiftees, and transferees (FSTs) to the NIGS community.

The activity served as an introduction to the people, spaces, and facilities that will become part of the student’s academic journey at NIGS. The incoming students were introduced to the NIGS administrative staff, faculty members, instructors, and other NIGS personnel, including those from Motorpool, who contribute to the Institute’s day-to-day operations and support the academic activities of its students.

The assembly also featured introductions to the various NIGS student organizations, giving the new students an opportunity to learn about the organizations and communities they may join throughout their stay in the Institute. Following the assembly, the participants joined a laboratory tour which allowed the students to familiarize themselves with NIGS facilities. Through these introductions, the FSTs were given a glimpse of the academic, administrative, and student communities that make up the Institute.

Through the FWA, NIGS continues to welcome and help orient its incoming students as they begin their journey in the BS Geology program. The activity also fosters a sense of community and helps new students become familiar with the NIGS personnel, organizations, and facilities that will be part of their experience at the Institute.
