Showcasing its continued commitment for disaster preparedness efforts, the National Institute of Geological Sciences (UP-NIGS) participated in the Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) held on 19 June 2025.
As soon as the alarm went off, faculty, students, researchers, and staff executed the DROP-COVER-HOLD procedure, then proceeded to the nearest exits and gathered at the designated evacuation area. The evacuation marshals, equipped with high-visibility vests, guided everyone through planned routes—ensuring an efficient and organized evacuation procedure. Meanwhile, simulation of a first-aid scenario was also demonstrated to strengthen emergency medical responses that may be essential during an actual event.
The primary aim of the drill was to assess and improve the Institute’s emergency preparedness for a large-scale earthquake. Its success was made possible by the active cooperation of everyone.
Through this effort, NIGS reinforces its commitment to equip its community with the knowledge and mindset vital for disaster response and resilience.
NIGS employees and students evacuate the building guided by designated marshals; first aid was also administered to injured individuals.
