The National Institute of Geological Sciences is pleased to recognize the outstanding achievements of its graduate students who successfully defended their theses from January to March 2026. These scholars have demonstrated exceptional dedication, rigorous research, and academic excellence in advancing the field of geology. Their work spans topics from volcanology and geochemistry to seismology and micropaleontology, reflecting NIGS’ commitment to producing research that contributes to both scientific knowledge and societal understanding of Earth processes.

1. Ms. Erizza Rose U. Santos – Master of Science in Geology

  • Thesis Title: Physical Volcanology and Geochemistry of the June 1897 Eruption of Mayon Volcano, Philippines
  • Defense Date : 27 January 2026

Ms. Santos’ research provides critical insights into the eruptive history and geochemical characteristics of Mayon Volcano, contributing to improved understanding of volcanic processes and hazards.
