The dedicated Administrative Staff of National Institute of Geological Sciences (UP-NIGS) joined the Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Training on 17 July 2025 at the Balay Kalinaw Conference Room, UP Diliman, equipping them with basic knowledge vital skills that could one day save a life. Representatives from the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) shared their knowledge and expertise on the matter.
The training began with the fundamental principles of basic CPR, covering essential techniques such as chest compressions, which is crucial for maintaining blood circulation and oxygen supply to the brain during a cardiac arrest. Participants also gained in-depth knowledge on the proper and safe operation of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), a portable electronic device that can analyze heart rhythms and deliver an electric shock to restore a normal heartbeat. The session emphasized hands-on learning, with participants actively engaging in actual CPR demonstrations on mannequins. This practical application allowed them to refine their technique, build muscle memory, and gain confidence in performing these critical, potentially life-saving procedures in a realistic scenario.
This initiative underscores the commitment of NIGS to fostering a safe and prepared environment for everyone.
