DOST-funded STroBE Project conducts fieldwork in Cagayan

The DOST-funded project titled “From Source Terranes to Basin Evolution (STroBE): Geologic Evolution and Paleoclimate Studies in the Northern Cagayan Valley Sub-basin” conducted fieldwork in Cagayan Province from March 29, 2025 to April 9, 2025.  This activity was part of the project’s research objectives aimed at understanding the source and depositional history of sedimentary rocks in the region.

The fieldwork involved geological field mapping, sampling, and identification of potential geotourism sites. It was conducted in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (DOST-PHIVOLCS), the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), and the project’s Taiwanese counterparts, namely the National Chung Cheng University (NCCU), National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), and National Taiwan University (NTU). The activity fostered meaningful discussions and facilitated the exchange of knowledge among collaborators from all participating institutions. These interactions not only strengthened the scientific collaboration between Filipino and Taiwanese researchers but also provided opportunities to align methodologies and share best practices. The diverse perspectives brought by each group enriched the interpretation of field data and laid the groundwork for future joint studies in the region.
