The four year BS Geology program offered by the institute is the most well-rounded study of earth sciences in the country. As a national center for excellence in the geosciences, students are trained in various disciplines which will prepare them for any field they may choose to pursue after graduation. Many graduates of the undergraduate program have become leaders in their respective fields, whether it be in mining, energy, hazards, the academe, or research.

Undergraduate Curriculum

Admission

For High School Graduates

High school graduates must have passed the University of the Philippines College Admission Test (UPCAT) of the previous year to be admitted into the program. The applicant must have indicated BS Geology as his/her first or second course of choice under the Diliman campus. To pass the UPCAT, the applicant must have received an UPCAT grade (UPG) corresponding to the minimum cut-off grade for the Diliman campus.

If the high school applicant passed the UPCAT but did not indicate BS Geology as their course of choice, he/she must go through the Shiftee/Transferee process indicated below.

For Shiftees and Transferees

Shiftees (students enrolled in courses within UP Diliman) and transferees (students from other UP units or other universities) who wish to transfer to the BS Geology program must go through the College of Science (CS). Every year, NIGS admits a limited number of students who exhibit extraordinary aptitude in science and geology.

Interested applicants must apply through the College of Science. Once the minimum requirements have been met as determined by the CS, applications will be brought to the institute. NIGS will then admit the top applicants as dictated by the number of slots available for that year.

Below are the requirements as set by the College of Science and NIGS (as of 4 March 2014).
