NIGS Lecture Angeles

Breccias are quite common and important in mineral deposits ranging from porphyry copper±gold to epithermal gold-silver±base metal. Their recognition and description are essential in fully understanding the geological character of the abovementioned mineral deposits.

These breccias are generally classified into four (4) categories, namely: phreatomagmatic breccia (diatreme-maar), phreatic breccia, magmatic-hydrothermal breccia and hydrothermal breccia.
